Welcome to RUNNING ON SUNSHINE PHYSICAL THERAPY!

Your use of time is a choice and a gift; thus, I am both thrilled and honored you stopped by.

The aspiration of this blog is to offer interesting, practical, short(ish), physical therapy-informed snippets of running-related tidbits with the hope to inspire your run and your day.  Whether this is your inaugural running debut or your motivation to rev up a lifelong skill, I am glad you are here and I endeavor to serve your ambitions.

Part of the joy of running is that it is a humbling sport, and there is always more to learn.  As we embark on our mission, let us keep in mind the sage advice to not “miss the forest for the trees.”  I cite this because I love details, and you may too.  When I am in the woods, I do see the trees, and I see the ants crawling on the trees, and the ants are smiling in a cheerful sort of way.  I digress.  Running is a gestalt.  It is more than the sum of its parts.  Thus, let us keep a bigger picture in mind as we take in the details.

My second soapbox purports that ‘One-Size-Fits-All’ applies to tennis shoes as well as it does to running and physical therapy. (No Thank You!) Here's a better option. An evidence-based practice approach is the gold standard in the physical therapy world, and it also serves runners well.  This approach to decision-making incorporates not only the experience of the physical therapist, but also the values of the individual runner and the appraisal of scientific literature.  Folks tend to have role models.  I am grateful to have many.  Some of my role models just happen to be some really awesome running-related researchers, and there is a lot of admirable work being done.  (Thank you!)

As I scout out the terrain for this running blog route, some posts will be straightforward and practical while others will navigate decidedly nerdy turns (said with reverence).  Feel free to take your pick of posts or mix and match!

I look forward to this running journey and invite you to come along on this adventure!  Please feel free to contact RUNNING ON SUNSHINE PHYSICAL THERAPY with any questions, insights, corny puns, or suggestions, and to schedule an appointment.  Talk soon!  Cheers to new knowledge and running inspiration wherever you may find it!

What business does Christen have writing a blog?

Given that she doesn’t care for the word ‘blog’, probably none!  However, the Web+Log moniker harkening back to the late 90’s better appeals to the verbal palate and provides an in.  Christen holds a doctorate in physical therapy and has practiced since 2009.  She is board-certified as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. Christen shares a love of long-distance running.  She founded RUNNING ON SUNSHINE PHYSICAL THERAPY.  In earlier times, she spearheaded an evidence-based practice committee and presented research findings to the physical therapy department as well as the organization at large.  Christen is grateful for the tremendous opportunity to learn not only from colleagues and literature, but also from her patients and views them as treasured collaborators.
